Food services and drinking places, October 2021

On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales in the food services and drinking places subsector decreased 0.5% to $6.2 billion in October 2021 compared with the previous month. Sales fell at full-service restaurants (-0.7%), drinking places (-7.6%) and special food services (-2.2%), while sales at limited-service eating places were up (+0.3%).

In October, seven provinces reported lower sales, with the largest decrease in dollar terms being in Alberta (-2.3%), Ontario (-0.3%) and Saskatchewan (-3.8%). New Brunswick (-3.5%), Nova Scotia (-2.2%) and Newfoundland and Labrador (-2.2%) also reported declining sales as the fourth wave of COVID-19 spread throughout the country.
