Canadians don’t need the World Cup as an excuse to travel to see a sporting event—we do it all the time. Canadians took 10.5 million domestic trips that included attending a sports event as a spectator in 2025.
We also travel to play sports. In 2025, 6.8 million Canadians reported taking a trip during which at least one member of their travelling party played an individual or team sport.
Canadian sporting events attract an international crowd
Canadians are not the only people cheering at sporting events in Canada. In 2024, an estimated 759,000 overseas and United States visitors who flew to Canada by commercial air reported they attended a sports event as a spectator during their trip.
