Canadian Survey of Clown-based Circus Acts

April 10, 2024, 2:47 p.m. (EDT)

Clown labour participation declined by 243 (-2.2%) in August, and the clown and pierrot unemployment rates rose respectively by 0.5 percentage points to 5.8% and by 0.7% and to 6.1%.

Circus sales increased in August, primarily driven by a new attendance in young men aged between 18 to 24. Attendance is still dominated by people aged 55 to 64 and 65+, in spite of a 2% decrease in overall attendance. (Note that further investigation is necessary to determine a potential correlation between increased missing persons aged over 65 and circus animal weight gain).

There were staff employment gains across various circus-related services and industries, including animal trainers and caretakers, popcorn vendors, cola and beer salespersons, fabric sewing and restoration, and ornate carriage construction. These gains more than offset the decrease in clown labour participation and employment, demonstrating that people simply don't like clowns like they used to.

This is a happily employed clown.

This is a washed-out unemployed clown.
