Environment and Climate Change Canada's National Inventory Report now available on the CCEI

Updated data from Environment and Climate Change Canada’s National Inventory Report (NIR), Canada’s official greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, are now available on the Canadian Centre for Energy Information’s (CCEI) website. The Energy and Environment section of the CCEI website includes a collection of indicators and data visualization tools, allowing users to visualize key environmental and energy statistics for both ECCC’s GHG inventory and StatCan’s physical flow account’s GHG emission data.

Users can now see a breakdown of ECCC’s GHG emissions and removals data by sector and province and territory between 1990 and 2021. The website highlights various indicators, from GHG emissions in Canada, GHG emissions per capita, GHG emissions per GDP and several more. Additionally, users have access to data visualizations, both in data tables or chart format, which presents the total GHG emissions by gas type, geography and economic sector. The data includes emissions of various gases in five sectors: Energy; Industrial Processes and Product Use; Agriculture; Waste; and Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry.

We invite you to explore ECCC’s NIR data on the CCEI!

Launched in October 2020, the CCEI is a partnership between Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada, in collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Canada Energy Regulator, and provincial/territorial energy ministries.

This release is an example of the type of information Statistics Canada and its partners will continue to provide to Canadians through the CCEI.

The goal is to provide timely, high-quality data and insights about energy in Canada.
