Did you know Statistics Canada models the population of Canada in real time?
Canada's population clock (real-time model), also known as “The population” clock, is an educational tool that provides information on the pace of population growthr across the countryenewal of the Canadian population. In this tool, the components of population growth are modelled in real time to adjust the population of the country, provinces and territories.
The image below shows a snapshot of the real-time model, as of June 17, 2025, 12:00 p.m. Eastern time.
Total population of Canada: 41,605,893
Population of provinces and territories:

Important notice
The population clock uses assumptions based on recent demographic estimates and administrative data inputs to model, in real time, changes to the population beyond the reference date of the most recent quarterly population estimates for Canada, the provinces and the territories. To maintain coherence with the most recent estimates available, the underlying model is updated with each new release of quarterly demographic estimates. The population clock is intended to serve as an educational tool to inform Canadians on the pace of population growth across the country. Population estimates and census counts are the measures used to determine the size of the population in the context of various governmental programs. Additional information related to Canadian population trends can be found on Statistics Canada’s Population and Demography Statistics Portal.
