The market value of assets held by Canadian trusteed pension funds continued to grow in the second quarter of 2021, rising $82 billion, or 4.0%, to $2.14 trillion from the previous quarter.
The two largest asset classes accounted for more than half (55.8%) of the increase; bonds rose 5.2%, or $28.7 billion, and equities were up 2.0%, or $17.0 billion. Canadian bonds increased 4.8%, whereas Canadian equities fell 2.1%.
Domestic assets rose 2.5% in the second quarter, while foreign assets increased 3.9%.
