Streaming sales continue to drive revenue growth in the record production and distribution industry in 2023
The Canadian record production and distribution industry earned $903.3 million in operating revenue in 2023, up 21.2% from 2021, the last time the survey was conducted.
Streaming sales continued to drive growth in the record production and distribution industry, rising by one-quarter (+25.8%) from 2021 to $517.2 million in 2023.
Streaming accounted for 79.2% of total sound recording sales in the industry in 2023, up from a 75.9% share in 2021. While sales of compact discs and digital downloads continued to decline in 2023, sales of other formats, including vinyl records, rose again, accounting for 13.0% of total recording sales.
